ESSA statewide conference set

State and federal updates and grant support
will be featured at the statewide ESSA conference.
A conference for school leaders on the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, exploring an equity-focused theme of “Whole child, whole school, whole community,” is being held February 11-13 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel Chicago.

State officials who organized the event explain this year’s theme reflects ESSA’s commitment to “leverage funding to ensure a focus on equity and excellence for all students.” Some sessions at the conference will be presented by ISBE staff experts on the details of the ESSA State Plan.

The event is to address all educational levels, from early childhood through secondary, with emphasis on personal teacher/student interactions, school policies, and educational strategies that enhance achievement and growth across the curriculum.

The statewide conference is being presented by The Center: Resources for Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with the Illinois State Board of Education, as well as other education organizations. Highlights of the program include:
  • Detailed sessions illuminating the Illinois ESSA state plan
  • Five keynote speakers
  • Nearly 200 concurrent sessions and workshops in such topical strands as engagement with parents, families, and communities; school improvement policy and practices; technology in the classroom; and more
  • State and federal updates and grant support
  • ISBE technical assistance on topics such as Titles I and II, private school participation, school/family/community engagement, and many others
