Joint Annual Conference Update

Registration and housing selection continues for the 2015 Joint Annual Conference. Over 500 Illinois school districts and over 200 companies are registered for the 2015 Conference. With attendance once again on the rise, school board members are encouraged to join their colleagues in education. As of this writing, three hotels had sold out for the 2015 event: the Embassy Suites, the Swissǒtel, and the Fairmont. Click here for Conference information or to register.

This year’s conference features General Session keynote speakers covering motivation, leadership, and education: motivational speaker, author, trainer, and comedian DeDe Murcer Moffett, University of Maryland President Freeman Hrabowski and Kevin Brown, who serves as assistant vice president of SERVPRO. Additional registrations continue to be available for Pre-Conference Workshops and the Chicago Schools Tour.

Pre-Conference Workshops will take place at the Sheraton Hotel. Full-day workshops include The Basics of Governance; Leading Leaders: The Job of the Board President; and Professional Development Leadership Training (PDLT) and Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA) Training for School Board Members.

Half-day workshops include Superintendent Evaluation: The Essential Work of the Board (a.m.); Using Data to Make a Decision (p.m.); Closing the Gaps: Between What Sounds Good and What Gets Done (a.m./p.m.); Social Media Primer: Everything You Need to Know About Today's Social Channels (a.m./p.m.); and School Finance for Board Members: Topics and Trends (a.m./p.m.).

The 2015 Chicago Schools Tour will feature the following CPS schools:
  • Skinner West Elementary School - A Pre-K-8 academy with highly structured accelerated programs for strong academic achievement in literature, mathematics, language arts, world language, and the humanities.
  • Chávez Multicultural Language Academy - A strong PK-8 neighborhood school committed to personalized learning and technology integration.
  • Alcott College Prep High School - West Campus- Small neighborhood Democracy high school, weaving civic learning practices throughout traditional curriculum, giving students both a technical and practical understanding of the U.S. political system.
  • DeVry University Advantage Academy - A dual enrollment high school providing qualified students with the opportunity to graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associate degree in Network Systems Administration or Web Graphic Design.
